Scenes from a Memory voted best album in 10 years!

The classic Dream Theater album "scenes from a memory" was recently voted "best album of the last decade by the readers of Dutch Progressive Rock Page.

Octavarium, the track from the 2005 album of the same name, also made it to number 2 in the category of "best track".

Personally I still adore The Glass Prison and would have easily put that #1 if only they had done the right thing and put me in charge of the competition...

Dream Theater Tabs

Gutiar tabs!

The only way to really appreciate how great Dream Theater are is to set about learning their stuff.

The first thing you can do is get your teeth stuck into the guitar tab for my favourite Dream Theater song - The Glass Prison

Here is a short list of some of the best DT guitar tab resources out there...

UltimateGuitar.com
XGuitar.com (my favourite tab site, as it is grouped into albums)
MetalTabs.com

So now go grab some tabs, grab your guitar and get learning. If youre feeling good enough then perhaps you could tab out a DT song yourself. If you want your guitar tabs listed on this Prog Blog then contact me!

Progressive Nation 2008 - Dream Theater Tour Announced

In the last few days Mike Portnoy, DT's long standing drummer, announced the "Progressive Nation" package tour, featuring Dream Theater, Opeth, 3 and Between the Buried and Me.

Portnoy said of the tour, "I've been wanting to assemble a package tour like this for many years now. With all of the festivals and package tours that go through America, I've been talking with our manager and agent for over 10 years now about doing something that focuses on the more progressive, musician-oriented side of hard rock and metal. I decided it was time to stop talking the talk, lace up and finally walk the walk"

The much adored Prog acts are hitting the road in May 2008.

John Petrucci Guitars

John Petrucci is, with no doubt, one of the greatest Rock guitarists of all time. But what equipment lies behind his elegant shredding style?

Petrucci is a known fan of Messa Boogie Rectifiers. These tube amps are well known and loved by most guitar players through their warm, sweet tones. Does anyone fancy giving a poor blogger one for free?
At the moment however, Petrucci prefers to use Mark IV's and MarkIIC+'s.

John Petrucci is well known to use 7-string guitars, first pioneered by Steve Vai who reportedly got sick of running out of strings to solo with, and later adopted by Korn to detune and turn into their well known crunchy, dischord sound.

Petrucci has historically always favoured Ibanez guitars, even though he is currently endorsed by MusicMan guitars.
